DVD -/+ RW not being identified

Basically I bought a dvd burner ages ago.. i just recently have tried to burn dvds and i've realized that i can't even use nero, let alone use it to burn dvds. The computer only picks it up as a cd burner and not a dvd burner, even though it says dvd rw drivers are installed. I got a copy of nero with it, so i dont' see why it won't let me use nero. i'll get specs of the dvd burner and such when i get back home, i'm at work at the moment. - seth

What model of DVD is it? Have you checked to see if there are any firmware updates for that unit? Are you running Windows XP or Windows 2000? Does the hardware show up properly in Device Manager? Have you tried any burning software packages other than Nero?

NEC DVD-RW 2500a is what comes up in device manager, i tried one other prog awhile ago and just gave up when it didn't work b/c i was too lazy to figure it out then. I'm using windows xp. - seth

If you have a CD burner on the same machine as the DVD burner, make sure that the dvd burner is selected in nero.

What version of Nero? Download the latest revision for your version of Nero and use your CDKEY to activate it, should solve the problem.

I have the same model burner and I had a problem with initial setup so I uninstalled the burner and tried again. Worked great. Driver auto installed in both 2000pro and XPpro

oh sorry, and about nero, it works fine it just doesn't realize i have a burner attached, i think this is more a driver/hardware issue than software, but i dunno...
