DVD-RW literally just stopped working

Last Thanksgiving, I bought the rebadged Lite-On DVD-RW from Office Max and it's worked great until yesterday. I burned a DVD with no problems at all. But when I went back a little while later to burn another DVD, it literally just didn't work. I put the blank disc in the drive, opened my burning software (CD Burner XP Pro, as found in the free software thread in Software), set up the disc as always, and hit burn. The popup that comes up while a disc is burning came up and it looked like it was going to start, but then the whole program just closed and I was unable to get the drive to eject the disc and I have to reboot to get it to eject. I thought it might be the program, so I uninstalled and reinstalled; same thing happens. I went into Device Manager and uninstalled the drive and restarted and let Windows detect it again; same thing happens. I went and downloaded the trial version of Nero 6 to see if that worked; almost the same thing happens. Two different things have happened when I tried using Nero, actually. The first time, I set up the disc and hit Burn and an error message came up that said "Internal error" and when I clicked Okay, Nero closed. The second time I tried it, as soon as I added the files to the disc, Nero closed.

As far as I can tell, reading discs is no problem. I just put in a DVD that I burned a few weeks ago and it read it just fine.

Thanks in advance for any ideas that anyone might have to fix this.

Several blank discs, yes. Haven't tried another IDE channel, no. I can try that in a few days, though, if nothing else works before then. I'm in the middle of moving and it would be easier to open the case up after I've moved. I just tried a system restore and it did the same thing. I guess that means it's something hardware-related.

Really delayed bump for any other ideas to try. I just tried burning another DVD and it still won't work. I'm running out of space on my hard drive 🙁
