get an hp DVD +- RW drive. i have used them in 3 different systems since last year and have had no problems. i think raptor is the term western digital uses for their 10k rpm drives. i've heard good thing about western digital. if price is an issue you may wanna check other brands out such as maxtor or seagate.

Yah raptors are WD's 10K drives and caviars are their 7200rpm drives.
I have four caviars in my system, haven't had a problem and i run em 24/7. My roommate had a maxtor once and it gave him nothing but problems. I always suggest WD or Seagates.

Later on this week I'm going to a friends house to install some ram for him (n00b). I'll check what harddrives his dell uses.

Just checked with two friends. On his Dimension 4400 he got shafted with a maxtor and on her 4500S she got a Seagate. So, umm yah hope that helps. Best to just build it yourself and get a system you're happy with.

Pioneer, NEC, and Lite-on DVD burners are popular around here, and dual layer drives are starting to hit the market. Personally, the cost of dual layer media is still a little high for me to justify getting a dual layer burner, but I don't know how it will be in 3 months or so.

I've had my Lite-on 8x +R/-R drive for 6 months now without a single problem burning both DVDs and CDs.
