DVD-RW drive keeps disappearing from Windows AND BIOS

Each time i re-boot my machine, my Lite-On CD/DVD-RW disappears from Windows AND the bios.

If I go into my device profile and "scan for hardware changes", it comes back...SOMETIMES (maybe 50% of the time).

I've tried using different IDE cables, and it still does this. Is my drive dying?

Try a firmware upgrade of the drive, and perhaps a BIOS update.
