DVD-RW Drive and IDE HD installation help (first-timer)

I am currently in the process of building my first PC and I've hit a wall.
THe manual provided with my motherboard/case is not detailed enough for a first-timer to really be sure I'm doing the right thing.

A couple of questions...

1) My motherboard package (MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum) provided me with a Master/Slave/System IDE cable. I have the Master part connected to my IDE hard drive, and the System to my motherboard IDE1 slot. Now, I also have an OEM DVD-RW (NEC ND-3520A) drive which didn't come with any cables. But I need something to connect it with the motherboard. It looks like I could fit in the Slave connector to the connector on the back of the DVD-RW drive. I also read something about setting the jumpers if I'm connecting a Slave, how do I do this with my DRD-RW drive?.

Or am I supposed to purchase a separate cable? If so, what kind? (excuse my shallow knowledge, I'm very new to this kind of stuff).

2) My Seasonic 430w PSU has a FAN M (3P) power connector coming out of it, which I have it connected to the SFAN1 slot on my board. But since the PSU generates power, why should I get power from the board? Should I disconnect this?

I think that's about it for now.

Thanks!

1)Do you have more than one IDE slot on your motherboard?

2)That allows your mobo to monitor and regulate the fan speed of your psu. Go ahead and plug it into the mobo.

OK, I'm going to assume that all you have is 1 hard drive and 1 DVD-RW drive.

Ideally, you would have them on separate channels, since you'll mostly be burning from hard drive to DVD-RW drive. By this I mean put the hard drive on IDE1 Master and the DVD-RW drive on IDE2 Master. You would have to get another 18" IDE cable for the DVD-RW drive. They're really cheap. Make sure you get the regular 80-pin one (40 pins for data and 40 for grounding).

For the time being you could maybe get by with one cable. Put your hard drive on IDE1 Master and your DVD-RW as Slave on IDE1. There should be a jumper diagram somewhere on your drive, and it'll tell you where to put the jumper--

You know what, scratch all that. Since you're still building your PC, it would save you a lot of trouble if you just bought another IDE cable. It's a very good idea to separate your hard drive and your DVD-RW drive. So like I said in the beginning, HD on IDE1 Master, DVD-RW drive on IDE2 Master.

Thanks for your advice.

As you suggest, I will go get another of these ribbon cables.
But I was wondering what you mean by 80-pin instead of 40-pin,
because the one I have has 40-pins (39 without the no-pin pin) --no more--on each connector. I have 3 of these on the ribbon cable, each for system, master and slave.

So I don't understand what it means to get a 80-pin cable.

Thanks for the clarification!
