dvd-/+r's burned with optorite do not read on dvd-rom

dvds burned with the optorite drive do not read on my other dvd-rom drive

the dvds read just fine on the optorite drive though...one thing that i notice is that on nero tool kit, for the generic dvd-rom drive, dvd-r and dvd+r compatibility is not checked....

is it possible that my generic dvd-rom is just no good and that i need to replace that to read my burned dvds?

by the way, these dvds i burned are strictly data..i was able to burn a dvd movie and play it in the generic dvd-rom drive

Sounds to me like this is likely the issue. Either a replacement DVD-ROM or maybe a firmware update will more than likely fix this issue.

Maybe, but I think it's quite possible that it's the media.

Optorite is definitely not a top tier media brand.

I use nothing but Apple or TDK or similar media myself.

Yes, media could also be the problem, though not likely. Media problems are usually in the burning of the DVD. It seems he is burning okay, but his drive can not read the burned disks.

The other problem I see here is that Optorite is a hardware manufacturer, as in the DVD-R drive is an Optorite. They don't make media at all AFAIK (I am betting not, as they don't list "Optorite media" as being compatable with their drives. Which would be odd, no? Oh, and the lack of media listed on the products page). OptoDisc, on the other hand,( which is what you meant maybe?) is not a top tier meida brand.

i am using fuji media

the dvd burner itself is optorite

i think i will just purchase a better dvd-rom...maybe a liteon...any suggestions?

Doh! OptoDisc is what I was thinking. 😱

Perhaps there's a firmware upgrade for your DVD-ROM?

dont bother. it's not the ROM drive, it's the writer that's the problem.

So the fact that the feature flags showing in Nero have it listed as "unable to read -R or +R" means nothing?

Go into Device Manager and get the actual model/type of the drive, then maybe we can tell you for sure if it's a firmware issue or just sucky drive/media. 😛

it's a norcent, firmware 422O....i've looked at firmware-flash.com and it never gets updated

i'm sure it's junk cos it has enough problems just playing dvds

i have the LHNT-DR1600

in the past norcent used to have the actual firmware (2 versions) but now they are gone...all that's left is this udf zip file under dos drivers..i'm not sure if this will solve the problem or not...

yeah, this is the firmware my dvd-rom currently uses

since there is nothing new i can't update my drive...i guess i have to buy another dvd-rom drive:disgust:maybe a liteon?
