DVD-ROM, WMP and Quick Time

I was playing a music CD the other night using WMP, when the DVD-ROM or HD started making a rumble noise. When I clicked on WMP in the taskbar to shut it off, I saw a momentary flash of the QuickTime logo. I had installed QuiickTime about a week prior and then uninstalled it, also cleaning it out of the registry with RegCrawler. Just wondering-- is it possible a remnant of QuickTime could interfere with WMP and cause that rumbling noise? DVD-ROM is playing fine now.

I neglected to add that the "rumble" caused an error in Event Viewer: Error code 7, CD-ROM.
