DVD-rom region

I've got a bunch of DVDs for different regions.
I don't have any trouble playing them on my desktops DVD roms, but my laptop gives me only a number of region changes.I only have 3 left and I have to use one more to change back to region 1. is there any way I could make it NOT sensitive to the region? like my desktop?
or is this sth that happens in vista?
my Desktop has got XP pro.
