I've got XP Pro with a generic DVDRom. It can read the DVD alright but it won't play any movies. I can put CD's in and it reads those fine. I have tried two different DVDRoms so I don't think the drive is the problem.

In order to successfully play movies, you need to have either a hardware or software decoder. What program and video card are you using to play the DVDs?
