dvd rom problems

i get this wierd problem with my sony 5x dvd rom drive. (this is an old one) model is ddu220e. now, the drive didn't come with any drivers.. and only came with a manual. i've followed instructions very well, but it only seems to work when it reboots, or when it wants to. if i boot up, and it manages to read the dvd, i usually lost audio in 5 mins, or if i try to change the dvd, the drive stops working entirely.

i managed to use it today, and when trying to switch dvd to cd, it stopped working.

is there any settings in the bios that might help the dvd rom read dvds? or any fixes or thoughts or solutions for this problem?

i'm running windows 2000 now, and i have tried this through a beta of win xp, and windows 98se. both hold the same result.

thank you.

Sounds like a faulty DVD-Rom to me... might have been refurbished but didn't really work too hot for ya. I suggest you try to get a complaint form filled out to get a replacement.

I had this problem w/ my Pioneer 10X, it'd only read the drives well sometimes, and just load and read, load and read w/ nothing to show for it some other times. I complained to Pioneer over and over again, and eventually, they gave into my demands and got me a new drive.

Seems like a hardware problem more than anything else... hope the warranty is still entact

Good luck
