dvd-rom problems

first of all merry xmas to everyone.

ok, now my problem. i have a Creative DVD-ROM DVD2240E thats having problems reading cds, especially burned ones. it reads everything else fine such as dvds and cds, but has problems reading a lot of burned cds. the burns arent bad either because i've tried them on my newer system and other systems and they work fine. any suggestions? people have suggested cleaning it, but how do i go about doing so? also, will upgrading my firmware help? any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

DVD drives use an optical red laser. CDroms use an infra red laser. Cheaper DVD drives don't include a separate laser for CD. Because of this they have trouble with burned CD's. I wouldn't use a DVDrom drive as a CDrom personally.

I have the exact same DVD drive as you and have the same problem... even if the DVD drive successfully reads the CD, it is extremely slow compare to other CD-Roms... so I just use my CDR drive to read burned CDs...

I'm useing a Pioneer 16x52x and listin
there are 2 lazers in my DVD - ROM drive
and there are no Problems I suggest you return that Crative drive and get Pioneer coz they are more Relyalbe then any other DVD Drives out there in the market
