DVD-ROM Installation Help

Hey, this is almost a cross post, but not really, as my other post is about something else. With that being said:

I have a sata HDD. The cpu is not installed, but i was powering up the system to check if the dvd rom worked. It didnt eject.

I did plug in the 4 pin molex connector. However, its not directly from the PSU to the DVD rom. There are no WHITE 4 pin connectors (no holes) on the psu. Instead, i have to link the blue 4 pin (no holes) to a white one (with pins) coming from the case. From there, the one with pins is attached to a white one with no pins, and i attach that to the DVD rom.

How come there is a 40(39) pin connector between the other 40 pins on the ribbon IDE cable? Do i use this? i set my dvd rom to master and put it in the primary IDE slot.

In addition to this, one of the connectors is black, and one is blue. Which connector goes where, or does it not matter? Thanks guys

The reason, I think, that the dvdrom wouldnt eject is because for power to be sent thru the molex connectors, the psu must receive the PWRGOOD signal from the CPU - which wasn't plugged in. The blue connector on the ribbon goes into the motherboard. Put your dvd-rom drive on the connector the furthest from the blue connector, then set it to master. If there will be another drive on the channel, connect it (the second drive) to the middle connector and set jumpers accordingly. Good luck 🙂

Master or slave, primary or secondary ide slot, white or blue molex connector?

Set the DVD-ROM as the master (if the only drive, you may have to change it to another kind of master, dependind on the drive), put the cable on the motherboard's secondary IDE slot (the primary is for hard drives), and I don't know what you mean by blue molex connectors - do you have a picture of them, or what model is you power supply?
