A hardware configuration question for you guys...
Windows is behaving strangely after VMware disabled Autoplay. If I boot the computer with a disc inserted, it will have the proper icon. After ejecting the disc, the icon and drive label still remain. When I double-click on the CD-ROM drive, Windows still attempts to run the executable specified in AUTORUN.INF; resulting in a "File not found" error message. My DVD software fails to recognize that a movie is inserted.
In THIS screenshot, you can see that VMware wants to disable "Autorun." I remember seeing the option in Win9x to enable/disable "Auto Insert Notification." If A.I.N. is what I think it is, then that is causing my problem.
1. Is "Auto Insert Notification" the same as "Autorun"?
2. How do I re-enable it with Windows XP?
I have already checked using TweakUI; Autoplay is enabled for all drives.
I have also removed/reinstalled the DVD drive through the Device Manager.
No luck.
