DVD-Rom drive causing computer to reboot?

Hi guys, long story short, my sister's computer keeps blue screening, with "driver errors" after I installed a DVD drive in her computer. Here's some quick specs.

Axp 1600+
Soltek kt133 sdram board
512 megs of sdram
Geforce 2 mx
120 gig hdd

MAD DOG dvd drive..

yeah, so this wasn't happening before I added the drive... any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks! Any help greatly appreciated.

First, the error message would help, if you know it. I would simply try unplugging the DVD drive and see what that does. It may be a coincidence, hard to tell without the error message (though even with the message, it isn't always easy to tell anyhow).

Is this windows xp? If its ME, then your answer is its ME. Otherwise the power supply could be too small for what you are running.

Computer is running an XP pro. Oh I forgot, the psu is a 300w enermax, and the videocard is a geforce 4 mx 420.

still having this problem, any other ideas?

Does the drive show up in the boot screens before the OS loads? Possibly a conflict on the IDE channel - both drives set as Master.

well, it blue screens sometimes, and sometimes it just reboots. i almost always happens while watching a dvd.

and this wasn't a problem until i installed the dvd drive 🙁 maybe it's in conflict with the other cdrom drive (a cdburner) that's on the same channel?

hmm...

What software are you using to play the dvd? Try something else. Uninstall what you have and use klite codec pack. It has a dvd decoder.

If you're able to partially watch DVDs and the cdrom drive is working, there's probably not a conflict with the CD-Rom. Make sure that the IDE channel is not running in PIO mode - should be "DMA if Available". If DMA is already enabled, I would try deleting the IDE channel with the optical drives from Control Panel, reboot, then let XP re-install the drivers - check the DMA setting after XP reinstalls the drivers for the IDE channel.
