DVD-rom disc reading problem on XP sp2

I just loaded XP professional with SP2 on a newly bought Dell 400SC. I installed the OS with the DVD-rom drive. I then installed SP2. Now whenever I put a disc into the DVD it reads it as a single cda file, no matter what kind of disc, dvd, cd audio, data. This started when windows media player automatically open after I inserted a data disc in the drive. XP recognize the drive correctly as a 16X DVD. I have deleted and XP reinstalled it automatically after reboot.

The drive was working even though only for a short while. Anybody know the problem? I will try the DVD in another machince to verify if it's hardware, but I don't think so. I just found a similar post to mine in another forum.
