I noticed that my Asus DVD-ROM came with an audio cable to plug into a sound card or onboard mobo sound. What is its purpose and do I really need it to play DVDs and/or audio CDs on the drive?
It's for really old games that played CD audio tracks instead of data files, and for old media player software that can't do digital audio extraction through the ribbon cable. You can either ignore it or go ahead and attach it.
