I know that when ripping an audio cd the crucial factor is the ripping speed of the cd-rom. Is this the same with a DVD? Or is the data stream processed by the computer and not the dvd drive which would mean a faster cpu, etc would speed it up. The reason I ask is that the best I can do is 2x on my 12x drive. Thanks

Best DVD ripping speed I have seen is on the Lite-on 16x48x drive I have where I have seen and held 10x ripping speed....I have seen several dvd-rom drives (toshiba as one of them) were they are set and limited to 2x. I remember reading this is not a physical limitation but has been limited by the manufacturer..reasons unknown!!! You got a bad drive for this it sounds like....

I guess 30-40min rips you will have to live with....

I get many done in 15minutes or less...plus the lite-on drive was and still is an inexpensive drive
