DVD Ripping software optimised for i7?

Hi all,

Currently using DVD Shrink but find it only utilises about of my 5% CPU during a rip. Not even enough for my multiplier to increase to max. Just hovers at 12 X 160 while encoding.
Is this normal? Soft/Hard issue? Or is it the program?

Cheers.

Try Handbrake, I know that it will use 100% (well, 95% or so actually) of both of my cores in OS X, and I believe the same is true in Windows now.

No just encoding from the disc.

I experienced the same problem as you on my i7 when encoding from disc. It seems the i7 can encode video much faster than it can read data from the disc. Thus, it spends a lot of time idle. If you copy the DVD contents to the hard drive before encoding, it runs much faster and will utilize much more of your CPU.

dvdshrink maxes out cores.
yes it needs it to be on the hd. optical drives are dog slow. feeding 4 cores it might not be reading in a way that the optical drive can handle..seeks take a long long time.
