DVD ripping problem: FlaskMPEG is odd...

I'm new to ripping, and have successfully ripped a few sequences from movies. A few things I've noticed that I really must resolve:

1) If the sequence is 5 seconds, 10, 15, whatever.. Windows Media Player always thinks it's 58 seconds.
2) It takes a while for the "Media Changing" to complete..and upon first playing the movie, it skips the first couple seconds, then rushes it in a few milliseconds to catch up. Maybe something to do with the audio decoding.. not sure.

Any ideas? Is there a better VOB to MPEG encoder? Or maybe I need a newer FlaskMPEG? I have v0.6

Thanks

I don't think so.. I had a thread on this earlier. I'm not pirating. I like ripping favorite scenes to MPG for easy access.

Well, unfortunately I think FlaskMPEG is the standard. If anyone knows of alternatives, let me/us know. It does a really crappy job of writing MPG. Maybe I'll try AVI format instead & see how that works..

go to www.doom9.net for the most complete divx ;-) and dvd ripping guides/software on the web.
there is much superior way to flask, and it is SBC using Nundub, or a simpler way of MM4 using FairUse. read all the guides, try the soft, spend some time, and natualy: only use it on DVDs you legally own!

<< I thought the whole point was to encode to DivX .avi format... >>

I dunno.. I've toyed with different codecs of AVI (Cinepak, Indeo, etc). Indeo 4.5 looks very sweet at 85% compression. But MPEG looks better... lots better.

FlaskMPEG/bbMPEG just does a crappy job of syncing audio w/ video.
