I know "What DVD ripper zomg!?" is asked all of the time and I searched so don't bite my head off. Right now I am looking at DVDFab but I am not entirely sure how easy it will be for my dad to use. He is a computer guy at work (kinda, he does more managing etc) but he is still older and less techno-savvy. Anyways, last year we got him a PSP since he travels a lot but he's tired of taking DVDs with him so he wanted to get some software to rip them into mp4 format for memory cards. Obviously he is willing to pay for the easiest use here, it doesn't have to be free it has to be easy to use. Any suggestions other than DVDFab? Also, any idea about how many movies will fit on a 2gig card? He will just want the movie, he doesn't watch special features or need subtitles. Thanks in advance.

I use DVD-to-MPEG ver. 2.2 for that purpose. I convert DVD disk movies to MPEG 4 and then load them onto my Creative ZEN Vision viewer. It is easy to use and works.

I don't know about what fits on a 2 GB memory device - my Zen Vision has a 30 GB microdrive in it.

Why are you limited to a 2GB card?

Well he already had 2 2gig cards. The PSP takes SD cards so it's limited to whatever fits on that.

I've used DVDFab. It has a built in setting to to convert to PSP format. I think that may be the easiest.

Yeah I'm 99% sure it'll be DVDFab. We DL'd the demo today and it was REALLY easy.

At those low resolutions (320x240 IIRC) and only 2 channel audio, I'd expect that 3 2-hour movies per GB would be acceptable.

dvdfab
they always update to handle the newest dvd copy protection. one less headache for your dad. sony churns out the ripper breaking discs every month or so, and dvdfab breaks them with an update.

Agreed. I really like this program. Haven't ever used it for PSP but I've seen the option and if it's as easy as everything else implemented by DVDFab, then it should be a breeze too.

I use DVDFab and CloneMobile. Either one will work great, but I had an audio sync problems (DVD>PSP) with DVDFab but worked perfectly on CloneMobile. I believe DVDFab has taken care of the sync problems, so I'd recommend it over CloneMobile as you can do A LOT more with it than just convert DVDs to PSP. For me, I'm happy I got both. :)

I've been using Nero Recode, if you have Nero 8, to encode movies to MP4 to play on my Treo. It's the only program I've used that actually sync's the audio and video, everything else has a slight delay with the audio. The nice thing is it has specific profiles for ipod and I think PSP. It also lets you choose your output so you can restrict the file from being larger than 1GB or 2GB.
