I've decided to go about the process of ripping my DVD library to make things a bit more convenient across my home and the multiple TV's I have. Plus, I have little kids that like to treat physical media with a relative lack of the utmost respect.

Yesterday I threw the free copy of WinX DVD Ripper on one of my computers and tried my hand at ripping. Unfortunately, the title I chose was a Disney movie and WinX complained at me about X-Project DRM and having to potentially purchase an upgrade in order to successfully rip said movie.

Given I have children, a large portion of my library is likely going to have similar DRM measures on it (I have a lot of Disney movies). Are there any suggestions of preferably free DVD ripping software that will let me handle these contingencies? If I have to pony up for something, I will. But I'm completely new to DVD ripping anyway, so I don't want to go out and get something that may or may not limit me down the road.

AnyDVD is the best solution. You can also use DVD Fab, but I prefer AnyDVD. Both of these are pay for products, but if you are doing a whole DVD library, the price tag is definitely worth it. There used to be free alternatives, but not any more.

I bought AnyDVD with a lifetime subscription a few years ago (and later upgraded to AnyDVD HD). Haven't found a single thing it couldn't rip. Best part is it will work with other software if you prefer (I use MyMovies for ripping, it does the decrypting for MM).

I use DVDFAB HD Decryptor for DVDs and Make MKV to BD. Both are free. Only 2 movies i cant rip with them so far are National Treasure DVD and the 3rd Matrix BD for some reason.

I use DVDFab (free version) to rip my movie collection and Handbrake to encode/shrink them. Out of about 200 DVDs ripped, I only had two that DVDFab couldn't handle, and that was because of scratches on the discs (data corruption) and not encryption issues. I have about 40 Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks/etc kids' films and DVDFab didn't have problems with any of them.
