DVD rip speeds?

I'm looking at the Lite-On 16x DVD ROM

How much difference would it make when ripping DVD's compared to my Creative 6x DVD Rom? it takes me about 90-100 minutes to rip a 90 minute movie

Thanks

Davi

what processor are you guys using?
I'm using 850 thunderbird.

I have about 55 more dvd's to rip and convert to divx so i might upgrade my PC. I just need to know what components to upgrade.

Thanks

Davi

I have a AMD Athlon Classic Slot A 650MHz 384MB PC100 CAS2 and a Pioneer 106S @ 16X. I can rip Tomb Raider in about 5-7 minutes. Now if I use flask encoder I can go from dvd to encoded avi file in about 4 hours (file size: 980MB) Then when I use Virtual Dub 1.4.8, I can get it down to 600MB and lower. Tomb Raider BTW is 100mins.

DaviDaVinci, processor speed is the most important thing in divx encoding. If I were you I wouldn't worry about getting a faster DVD drive I would start save my pennies for a faster motherboard and processor. A 1.33GHz+ P4 or XP will let you encode a movie in real time if not faster if you use AVIsynth/Nandub or DVD2AVI to do the encoding.

Lite-Ons are probably the best for ripping because it's so fast, it averages 12.2x(16.16x max) for DVD playback, while the Pioneer rips at a modest average of 8.58x. But it wouldnt be that much of a difference in real world, saves you maybe 5 minutes max.

I'm thinking about getting the lite-on since theres a good deal right now for them.

I just need to rip all my dvds then sell them all as a package. I need money for my car audio system 🙂 i should make vcds also so i can watch them in my car.....hmmm...that's a thought.....

Thanks for the help guys.

EDIT: SELL my DVDs' 🙂 in case someone thinks i'm going to sell my rips....blah.... anyone with a bunch of money want to buy a bunch of dvd's LOL!!!
