Using Smart Ripper, I can only get about a 2x rip speed. Am I doing something wrong or does that seem about right?

I'm using a
Tbird @ 1.4
256megs ram
iwill kk266 with latest 4 in 1's
pioneer 10/40 dvd drive
ibm 30gig 75gxp (7200 rpm)

Let me know if you can think of any settings that I might need to check (and probably let me know how to check them). Oh yeah, all of this on Windows 2k.

I would think that you should be ripping a little faster than that. I know the 16x Toshiba has a problem with only ripping at 2x, but I haven't heard anything about the Pioneers. Do you have DMA enabled. You might want to try another ripping program like DVD Decrypter.

weird, I get ~6-7X with the 16X Pioneer, so you should be close to that. Like Shooters said, make sure DMA is enabled.

I feel your pain. I have a Toshiba 16x and if I had known that it could only rip at 2x I would have bought the Pioneer.

how my cdroom or dvd room or hardrive do you have, or do you use any I/O controller for other device if yes than there is the problem there. when ever you have any i/o controller on you mobo and anything conected to there than the dvdroom only rip 2x(if the mobo build in raid than there not the problem about i/o controller)

Yeah Pioneer 16x rips at at least 6-7x, sometimes even 8-9x depending on location of the disc.

Well I have just found myself in the same position... I tried ripping Girl, Interrupted, and the speed of my rip dod not peak above ~4X. Both my HDD and DVD have DMA enabled and use 80 pin cables. My system:
1GHz AXIA Tbird @ stock
256MB CAS3
Win2k
ASUS a7v133
15GB 7200RPM WD
16X Drawless Pioneer DVD
12/10/32A Plextor

So your saying my IBM 75gxp connected to my promise ata100 controller card is causing my slow rip speeds?

I have the dvd connected to the secondary controller on the motherboard with via bus master driver's installed. Win2k shows it's running udma in the device manager.

Anything I could do here to speed my rip's up a little?
