My friend who is graduating is considering paying someone to make a dvd resume. Will employers actually look at this or is it a waste of money?

The person making it is going to charge him $70. It will include interview videos, projects, his resume and letters of recommendation.

Most employers will not take any look at that during the initial resume screening process. However, it might help as a resource to give out when meeting for an interview.

Three years ago I tried the idea with CDs containing my resume and samples of my work (I'm a programmer). I landed a job in early 2003 after one interview. I was told that the CD did impress them.

Waste. In all the interviews I've ever been in, I've never known an HR person to have either:

a) a DVD player in the interview room or,

b) the technical knowledge to load up a DVD in their hopefully DVD equipped computer system

So yeah, big waste of time and money. Paper (ie.-resume), a good persona and excellent speaking and hygiene skills still rule all in the job seeking process.

Unless that space is being usd by requested samples of your work (meaning huge media files) then no way.

Waste unless he's in the creative field, where he does animation or editing etc. and needs a demo reel.
