Blockbuster always checks it....its something you never think of checking. I'm not saying that has happened to me, I was just giving examples.

I understand that.....thats what the asst. manager is for. 🙂

If the wrong disc is inside, then replacing it with the correct item and a free rental on top of that would be reasonable.

If it's defective, just an exchange should be given. Half the time the damn DVD's don't work is because people put their fingerprints all over the disc. Most of the time, fingerprints are even worse than scratches, since the movie is only allocated on a small portion of the disc.

I also feel that the big rental chains should hire a guy to clean all the damned disc's for reasons mention in above post.

Your $5 DVD rental would suddenly be even more expensive, given the overhead of dealing with complaints from renters, paying people more to drive a movie over to the renter's house, etc.

If the DVD is scratched or otherwise unplayable, take it back and get a free rental. Sure, I'd be annoyed that the movie was not playable but shite happens. If they make good on the rental and give you a free one, I'd be happy. It's not a matter of life and death.

As for cleaning the DVDs before they go out again: They'll just pass the expenses down to the consumer and once again your movie rental becomes even more expensive.

You're not going to win either way. Either you blow time and gas driving back to the store to get a new copy of the movie or you get charged more at the register because they have to cover the expenses somehow.

should they ? Yes. Will they ? No, Blockbuster would have to look into getting auto insurance coverage and all that hooha...

I completely understand the fact that this will never happen. This was just more of a rant thread than anything else.

As for the cleaning of the disc's, you can buy cleaners for dirt cheap...and while they check returned DVD's...pass'em through. Would take all but seconds per disc.

I know that the Blockbuster near me is so busy that one person couldn't even begin to have enough time in a day to clean all the discs that come in the door. On the weekend, they have to dedicate a person to just check them in and put them away. They charge too much now for rentals. If they hire more people just to sit around and clean disks, don't you think that price might go up? Back in the day, it was your responsibility to rewind the tape. If you didn't, they charged you. I suppose they should have done that too? If you live soooooo far away, that you can't go back, then rent off the internet. They'll show up in your mail box. If you don't like a service that company provides, don't go there. I choose not to whine about it. I check the disc before I leave, clean it when I get home. I've spent a whole 30 seconds of my life, to watch a couple of movies that are gonna waste several more hours of my life.

What if you were totally hyped to watch the movie that night. Have quite a few drinks throughout the day(movie rented in afternoon sometime). You deem yourself unable to drive after putting the DVD in only to find its scratched so bad that its unplayable. You rented the movie to watch tonight. How does a monetary compensation make up for that.

Then you are a dumbass for not checking it before you got in your car and drove away.

Next time don't go to blockbuster
