DVD region codes?

it's negligable if you just put it into a DVD-ROM/RW drive in the comp, right?

100% sure?

why or why not?

Your computer's DVD drive is also set to a certain region. Before viewing your first DVD, you must pick your region. Unlike normal living room DVD players, you have five shots at changing your choice. See device manager, properties sheet of the drive.

I still wonder about that.
I have swapped my optical drives back and forth between my systems and they always reset the counter when Windows detects them. It seems to me that the setting is actually in Windows somewhere.

But heck, if you can find region free players and whatever, then go for it.

never happened to me before... I just stick the media in and it plays back like every other DVD player on the PC.

It's not really negligable, since if you continually were playing different region-coded DVDs, eventually it'd lock to the 5th one you chose.

However, there are a number of programs to get around this, the most notable being AnyDVD.
