DVD Recorder + and - question

gargars

I have been wanting a DVD recorder so I can copy all my old VHS tapes and free up some space (ok a lot of space!). I know there are DVD+recorders and DVD- recorders. If I get a DVD- recorder and DVD+ becomes the standard, had I just wasted money and will end up with a bunch of coasters, or will both formats stick around and be equally compatible with player in the future?

Buy a DVD + and - writer (dual format). Save yourself any issues.
Sony make the DRU30A which does both, there are also others (can't remember their names).
Anandtech did a roundup of a load of dual format burners, check the storage section of the main site.

by a memorex dual format 4x burner. they come with killer software and are the best you can get for your money. in a recent test it was only surpassed by the new pioneer burner by about 13 seconds
