DVD RAM Read

I purchase my Toshiba DVD ROM that can be flashed to a regional free DVDROM Player. HOwever, another reason why I purchased this DVD ROM Drive is because of RAM Read although I don't know what it is and other drive don't have such function.

Of course using common sense will know it read from the RAM but why is it important for a DVD drive to read from the RAM? Why not on CDRW?
