So my CDRW is broken and I'm guessing I will have to get a new one. But before I get a new one, I decided to take a look at DVD-RAMS. Does anyone know if these are actually worth buying? The ones I saw were around 300-400 dollars and didn't seem to sport more than 2X write speed. Is this the norm? Does anyone have one of these 2X DVD writers? If so, how long are we talking about waiting for it to write 4 GB to a DVD at 2X?

Thanks for any info, I can't believe CDs are becoming too small :).

I'd consider a Panasonic LF-D211V. It is one of the "next generation" DVD writers that can write to the double sided 9.4Gig disks as well as single sided 4.2Gig disks. I have seen a few good reviews (it's fairly new so, it hasn't been reviewed much) and it's relatively inexpensive ($320 on pricewatch.)

BBWF, Whats the difference between -RAM and RW? I was under the assumption that DVD-RAM was the term for DVD RWs. If that is not the case, what is a good RW and how fast are we talking here? I'd like to know how fast one of these can write 4GB of data to disc.

I'd wait until the dust settles on dvd-r/rw standards and prices begin to plummet.

DVDRAM uses a cartridge . its what i use in computer for backing up my old time radio shows. its a older one so its slower than the new ones. for me i like the idea the disk is in a cartridge because the disk doesnt get scratched easily. there is some dvdram media that you can remove from the cartridge and put in to dvdroms that support dvdram disks........

I'm eyeing this one, Pioneer DVR-A03. But I'm guessing no one has any input on how well these drives work or any personal experiences? Guess it's no mans land out here :D
