DVD +/- R/W

Hi everyone!
I would like to buy DVD +/- R/W. There are so many brands and it is hard to make a decision .
Could you please tell me about your experience with DVD +/- R/Ws.
Just give me your opinion.
Which manufacturer is the best in producing DVD +/- R/Ws:
1. Gigabyte
2. LG
3. NEC
4. Pioneer
5. Sony
6. TEAC
7. Toshiba
8. Liteon

Those are all good manufacturers, but the Lite-on and NEC drives seem to be popular around here. I've used nothing but Lite-on drives and burners for the last several years, and have had no problems with media or speed.

You forgot about Plextor.

Lite-On, Plextor, NEC and Pioneer are the more popular brands of writers. I have an LG (GSA-4040) 4x burner that I've never had a problem with (it's quite, relatively fast and dependable). For my next burner, however, I may try the newly announced Pioneer 16x burner that does 4x DL.

I got a 12X Optorite that supports HD-Burn (1.4 GB on a CDR) from newegg. I've only burned one DVD-R with it so far, but it plays fine even in my crappy Apex DVD player that won't even play some pressed DVD's.

*EDIT* Burned a 2nd DVD last night... copied Kingpin, a DVD that wouldn't play in any of my standalone DVD players, just in my PC... works fine playing from the DVD-R.

Pioneer DVR-106D is quiet 4x4 and goes a good job. Plus maybe a future flash to DL according to pioneer.

Got myself Sony DWU-18A, flashed it with the ROM from Lite-on 832S and now the drive is capable of burning DL @2.4X

And the drive came only for $75. I do not think that i will be using the DL recording in the coming months, as the media costs a lot.
But then who knows, if your friend comes to you with a DL media and asks you to burn tons of data, you know that your drive is capable of that, even though it will take 45 minutes.
