I recently bought a plextor 708A, and I'm trying to grasp the difference between them.
AFAIK they perform pretty much the same functions and they only differ in compatibility issues, but can someone give me a clearer understanding on these formats?
Thanks in advance

I've been sticking with DVD-R, because a) they work with most everything and b) my laptop's DVD recorder will only write to that format. DVD+R/RW does have features (i.e. CAV/CLV writing and lossless linking) that are not present on DVD-R/RW, but they don't seem to matter to me anyway. I guess it just depends on what your needs are.

If you're looking for near 100% compatibility with players and computer readers, DVD-R/RW would probably be the way to go.

basic differences for consumers:

+R ~ $1/disc
-R ~ $0.50/disc

-R is more compatable and cheaper

i think the only thing +R has besides extra "features" is i haven't seen any 8X -R media... not that anyone can affor it :(
