DVD/R trouble

Hi,
I have a strange problem with my DVD/RW.

About six months ago the playback started stuttered maybe once or twice per DVD. But its been gradually getting worse. A few weeks ago it was stuttering all the time, to the point of making movies unwatchable. And now it doesnt even read DVDs when I put them in.

Another strange thing is I can read and play ordinary CDs and I can burn CDs too.

Drive: Sony DVD/RW DRU-710A
Software: WinDVD and Cyberlink PowerDVD

Is my problem just that it needs to be cleaned?

You can always try cleaning it, but it sounds like the drive is going.

Yup, time to get a new one. I bought a drive once like that, that will not read DVD, but will write and read CD just fine. Had to get it replace.
