Hello,

My DVD drive suddenly changes into a CD drive as it appears in "my computer." It used to be shown as a DVD drive. How did it change and how can I change it back?

I can't play or burn DVD (data).

Please help! Thanks

My DVD burner shows as a cdrom.... doesn't affect anything though. It still reads and burns as it should. If you just want it to show as a dvd-r, or whatever, take a look at this thread Link

Thanks for your post and link. The icon shown for the DVD drive is correct. It's just the "type" of device that shows "CD drive" instead of, I guess, "DVD drive."

And because of that I'm wondering if it doesn't cause some of the softwares I've (Easy CD creator and Pinnacle Studio 8) to not recognize the DVD burner... I can't burn.

I read an article that says that Windows XP recognizes natively the DVD as a DVD-ROM Drive under the "type" column in "my computer"

What if it doesn't show DVD-ROM Drive but CD Drive? How can I change that?

Anyone can help?
