1) Are dvd-r discs playable in standard dvd players?
2) what is the best dvd-r/rw drive out there (sony, pioneer, etc)
3) what is good media for a dvd-r/rw drive. brands and what to look for - blue bottom, silver, gold, green, etc.

I don't know a whole lot about DVD burners, but from what i've read, most of the newer DVD players work the best with DVD+R, not DVD-R. But there are plenty of good reviews out there that cover all of this...
