I have a Samsung DVD R/RW SH-W08A on windows XP Professional SP2 and im having an issue with disc recognition, when i put a blank dvd +R into my Samsung drive the computer recognizes the drive as a CD-Rom Drive instead of a DVD-RW drive, but as soon as i take the disc out it will recognize my drive as a DVD-RW drive again. i dont know what to do, i have updated my firmware, i have uninstalled and reinstalled the drive itself, and still wont work correctly. i recently installed these programs:

alcohol120%
dvd shrink 3.2
DVD decryptor 3.5
ahead nero 6.6

the most recent dvd that was in the drive was Shrek 2. im not sure when this problem initially started, but i know it doesnt work right now. i have uininstalled the programs listed about, with the exception of nero. It is stil on my pc.

please get back to me asap,

Hmm. I happen to have been burning some DVD+R media in my NEC ND1300A +/- burner, and I noticed something similar.

In Windows Explorer, with no disc inserted, it shows up as a "DVD-RW", but when I insert a disc (I think it was a burned video disc), the drive showed up as "CD-ROM". I think it's just some wierd quirk in Windows. Does your CD-burning software, like Nero, recognize that you have a blank disc inserted? That's really only the important thing, the description is mostly just cosmetic.

. Some people have said that installing the latest ASPI layer into windwoes solves that problem. Worth a shot. Download the ASPI layer from Adaptec.com.

..bh.

:moon: Darn it gets dark early now...
