DVD-R Recommendations?

I had a Nu-Tech external DVD-R crap out on me after only having it about a month. I returned it to Newegg for a refund - looks like they no longer carry it! Anyhow, any recommendations for a replacement? I think I'd like to get another external drive so I can burn DVD's/CD's on the road, but I might get an internal drive as well since they appear pretty cheap. NEC looks pretty good. Nu-Tech still looks okay. Not sure about Sony. Should I consider double layer? I don't think I've seen anybody carrying double layer media. Or consider blue ray?

Well there are some good 1's around. Yes there is DL Media around, but it is expensive. The 16x BenQ is probably the fastest and best at that speed out there. I personally like the Plex 712 series of drives, tho i have read that Pioneer and Nec are very good as well.

Hehe I was going to suggest look at the Lite-On 1633 model,but it`s the same model in your link 😉,been using my external model now for a few weeks,no bad burns and it`s real quiet while burning and playing discs.

Btw there`s a new firmware out for it a few days back which I`m using,it has added more media compatibility.

Looks like the NEC (ND-3500A) DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner is a good bet. I just bought one from newegg.
