I need it to be able to replace my CDRW entirely, as I'd rather have one drive in my bay than two. The thing here is, I need something that will reliably do SafeDisc, SD2, and all the other protections as well as CDRWs do. Is there such an animal, and is it priced right or will I have to go with two separate drives?

Thanks!

Plextor & Sony are both excellent choices. Look at the reviews at newegg.com at the Plextor 8x, it's amazing.

Check out the Plextor 708A. It's dual format and it rocks. If you want to wait, Plextor has already announced a 12x DVD+R/W and a 8x DVD-R/W format burner. The 12x version will also come in an SATA version as well.

I will likely go with the 8x then, speed isn't a huge concern for me. If the 12x is out soon then the 8x should drop a bit, which would make it the best bet for me.

Have a look at cdr-info. They have excellent reviews of most current DVD Burners here

They do detailed tests on the ability of the drives to copy protected discs.

I have a Liteon 811s. Liteon is known for excellent audio extraction and burns CD-R at up to 40x full CAV.
You can get OEM version for around $100
