DVD-R or DVD+R

essential

I am about to buy a DVD Burner, finally, and was just wondering what format most of you prefer? I am the kind of guy who once I buy a format, I stick with it, so I'd like to start out the better of the two technologies.

What format do any of you use, and any particular reason why? I believe I read a while ago that +R is a superior technology, but -R is more compadible with dvd-players.

Sub-question:
Are there any particular DVD Media brands that are better than others, or are they all pretty much the same?

Thanks.

To answer the question of media..

TY ( Fuji) and Ritek are what i would consider great..

TDK, memorex, verbatim are good..

But either way, they are all pretty reliable.

+R for data, -R for video.

+R is better overall just because you can burn faster.
-R I still believe is more compatible with DVD players.

Is -R better for video just because it is more compatible with DVD Players, or does copying video backups actually produce better quality reproductions on -R?

Yup, same here.

And to answer essential's question, both types have the same quality. Most of us just like -R because its more compatible.

-R is generally supposed to be more compatible with DVD players but if you booktype +R disc as DVD-Rom, that's the most compatible as any player will read DVD-Rom.

I tried both but in my experience the Plus media DVD+R seems to always be better quality than DVD-R media.

so I now always use DVD+R and yes 4X dvd+r burns nicely at 8X . 🙂

Whats this booktype thing everyone is talking about? Is it a setting in nero or something. What about if i use another program like DVD X Copy or Arcsoft DVD Slideshow, or SONIC My DVD??

rfom what i've read dvd+r is more advanced. stuff like multiple track burns waste less space. but dvd-r is more compatible with players. i just go with price😛
