ok flame me, but is this the price i paid last time? i got the 105 / a05 burner and bought the ritek media, bought 50 and almost out, very pleased with this media and want to stick with it, it playes is everything i have needed it to, but i thought i paid less than a dollar each last time i know it only burnes at 1x but i am pleased with it, this is the best price i have found so far what does everyone else think? where r u all buying urs at? is this the best price www.rima.com ?

If you boost the drive with the tweaked firmware you can burn those suckaz at 2x. $1/ disc for 1x isn't too hot, btw. 
I picked these up for 80 cents a piece a while back, but I think the price went up. Still, they've burned really well at 2x on the 105 with the hacked firmware.

i know it has not been hours, but where does someone get this firmware you all are talking about? i am sure someone else as well as myself would like to know where to get it and how to put it on
Pioneer unofficial firmware You can find the firmware here. While this is "hacked" firmware, I am pretty sure that it pretty much keeps the whole official firmware intact but just adds a few different things so 1X media will burn at 2X and other stuff. It worked perfect for me and I was able to burn Lead Data or LD disks at 2X speed where with Pioneer firmware I was limited to 1X speed. I actually think burning at 2X speeds makes better disks, regardless if the media is really 1X speed. Just my opionion. This upgrade was pretty easily and painless, but doing firmware upgrades are never completely risk free. Being able to burn media at 2X speed was well worth the risk in my opinion. I think the Pioneer DVR105 file is at the bottom of the DVD-R list.
I just checked out that site, thinking i may buy some there. Just wanted to point out though, that unlike some other sites, there isn't free shipping. On a 25 pk of Ritek 1x ($1.10 each) there's $4.50 shipping, bringing the total to about $1.40 per disc.

All of these are the exact same media. The Sony version burns at 2X on my Pioneer DVR105. The LD and Lead Data needed the firmware hack to burn at 2X speed. I bought two separate 50 disk spindles with the DVD cases for around $53 with free shipping. Burned about 20 disks so far and they play in every DVD player I tried, which is about seven different brands. Other people have had good success with these disks which are also sold at PC Club. Good compatibility with various players and good burning reliability.

The double disk cases aren't real high quality, but they should hold up to normal use. What I like is the clear plastic sleeve around the entire case which means you can print up cheapo "labels" on regular paper and slide it right into the sleeve. I've had real good success with lead data cheapo DVD-Rs.
A cautionary tale re: Ritek. I've burned about 600 DVD's thru mu Pioneer A04. All purchased from the same source on Ebay, that also has a store. I would burn DVD's, and then check for integrity with my Apex 1200. All was right with the world until a couple weeks ago.
Several months ago I started converting my DVD's to DivX. Went through several cakeboxes, with about a 95% success rate on burns; I can live with that for cheap media. HOWEVER, when I lent a few out, they could NOT be played, or even read by three separate computer DVD players, all less than a year old, with LG, Sony, and HP CD/DVD drives. I traced the problem back to one particular cakebox. ALL other DVDs I made are fine, and play in all machines. I emailed the gal at XXXXX, and her response was "Sorry, you purchased those over a year ago. We will not replace". What a PISSER...
While I could leave some negative feedback, I'm not sure its worth the hassle. Better to vote with my Vias card elsewhere...

Cool, thanks for firmware links, I was not following the progress lately, and before the 2x burning on 1x media gave too many coasters on my Cendyne-Pioneer A104, so I had been using 1.32 version of firmware at 1x. But the new 1.40 hacked rocks, my 1$ generic DVD-RW's burn at 2x now - 4.5GB in 20 minutes, thats a lot better, and the new hack for the ripping limitation - godsend. Thanks again.
I have a Mac G4/400 with A05 Pioneer. Works great. Apple system profiler says it is REV 1.0
Would I gain anything with this tweak, patch. Everything works now, so I hate to rock the boat.

Based off the info from these posts, I bought a 25 pack of Ritek and a 10 disc sampler pack. The sampler had 2 each of Optodisc, Ritek, Princo, and DupEZ DVD-R, as well as one each Princo and Optodisc DVD-RW. The sampler was only $14 and the 25 pack was $30. I ordered Sunday night and recieved it Tuesday afternoon. Shipping was only $3.xx. So far all of these have worked in my 2X/RPC-1 firmware hacked Pioneer A05. Looks like I will be going with Rima.com for all my media purchases, but i might switch to Princo for cost issues, since they seem to work just fine (I still have no good standalone player to test them with, only a first-gen Apex player which is (barely) tiding me over until I m0d my Xbox (for it's media player and not piracy, honestly)).
I purchased 100 lead data- manufacturerd by sony dvdrs from http://www.atdiscount.com for $80, out of the 50 i used, 3 or 4 have failed in burning and none of them play on my home dvd player. I been trying to convert video tapes i had of past special events to dvd, wound up wasting too many of these only to find they dont work in the apex dvd player.
For my money, stick to Ritek G03.
