This will be the first time that i will be buying DL media. What brand would you recommend and where would you recommend getting some that would be a descent price. I forgot the name but i know that most people recommend a japaneese brand of media for DVD+r but how about DL...what should i get and where should i order them from?

thanks,
Ncage

Generally, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim (Mitsubishi) and Maxell (Hitachi) are reliable. Sometimes the brands of such primary tech and manufacturing companies are not available but those of rebranders are which may variously be manufactured under license by yet other companies outside of Nippon (Taiwan, Singapore, India, China). Sadly, it is still recommended (if not necessary) to confirm the best compatability betwixt specific hardware and media, for both burning and playback when to be used on stand-alone devices. videohelp has a nice database of media, burners and players. Also check out the forums at cdfreaks, cdrlabs, rpc1.org

I've used Verbatim when the first DL (+R) drives came out w/o any problems.

I've heard bad things about Memorex DL's and coaster-making, but I haven't had any problems with those either.

Been using NEC DVD DL burners since the get go.

Plays fine on Sony and Denon DVD players.
