DVD-R and DVD+R

I heard that not all DVD players are compatible with DVD+R discs, is this true? also is there any way to tell without buying the discs first?

Only sure way to find out is to use one of the DVD+Rs on your standalone player.

or you can read the manufacturer's webpage, they usually tell you in the DVD players' specs.....

most players will play -R if they are going to play 1 of the 2. most newer players can play +R but I still prefer using -R, they seem to have less trouble loading and therefore I figure -R would be more reliable for DVD video.

video help

There is a site and user maintained player compatibility list there.

Just so you know, early Panasonics only supported +R as Panasonic tried to push the +RW Alliance (the keepers of the +R format).
