So I just took out my hundreds of CD-R and DVD-R backup discs over the years and did a test.
They are all stored in the same condition, no heating, no wetting, no pressing and no scratching.
All my CD-R discs from 2002 are readable, brand name doesn't matter. After 2006, I only used DVD-R discs.
50% of my CMC-based DVD+/-R discs are bad now, fortunately I only have less than 100 of them.
The TY-based and AZO-based discs are pretty good. Because I have a lot of them, I cannot test them all, but the sample size is 100, good enough for me.
Guess I have to use other DVD drives to read the bad discs, hopefully get something back.
