What are the advantages/disadvantages of a console DVD player compared to a DVD player installed in a computer?
I have an extra computer I can use for DVD and mp3. I have a DVD decoder card, just dont have a DVD drive yet.

If you want to get technical about it 90 percent of the time you are going to get a better picture on a computer. Standard TVs only support up to a 480i (480 interlaced lines of resolution) picture. The best picture that you can get from a DVD is 480 (480 progressive lines of resolution)...but to get that you need a console dvd player that outputs progressive, and a tv that supports it. On a computer you will always get the progressive picture because of the the monitor res compared to tv...the only way that it may be a worse picture is if you have a slow ass comp and or a bad decoder card...you can get some choppy picture during high bit-rate scenes.

If you are a movie enthusiast, get a dvd player for your home system and connect it to your tv via s-video or component output. It is a lot better than any tv-out on your vid card. On another subject, new tvs will do 1080i and who wants to watch a movie on a 21" monitor even. Throw it in the dvd player and put it up on the 65" television.

Only thing I dont like about using My PC DVD out to my Tv in the Living room is having to get my ass off the couch every time I need to Pause or Stop the Movie! 🙂 hehe
I need a Radio Freq Remote for my Puter 😛 Do they even make those?????
