i want to get a pioneer slot load.. 10x or 16x..
(dunno though cuz many say they are noisy)

anyways.. what would i need to play movies.. obviously the drive.. and some software to play the videos... do i also need a decoder or can i just use software?.. i'm not too familiar with dvd equip on computers...

i'm runnin a celly 550 with a tnt2 ultra.. will that handle the task or a decoder card is in order..

and to top if off.. is there a difference between oem and retail dvd drives aside from the cable and packaging?... most of them i'm finding are oems...

THANKS

You don't need a decoder card with your rig. It's plenty powerful to do software decoding.

You hit the difference between OEM and retail on the head. OEM DVD drives usually don't come with cables or fancy packaging, and don't usually include any kind of software bundle beyond drivers. Also, the warranty is often shorter.

I'd get an OEM, and download the DVD player software from somewhere. PowerDVD and WinDVD are both good.
