I don't have any open drive bays left for a DVD player.

How will the quality be if I get an external DVD player and connect it through the S-Video port on my Hauppauge WinTV USB tuner?

Any other disadvantages to doing this?

I do not know. Why don't u just remove your CD-ROM and replace it with a dvd drive?

You can buy an external usb enclosure for your dvd drive like this.

I have this model and it works like a normal drive in win9x but I can't seem to get it to work in win2000 so I'm selling mine.

An external DVD may or may not work well. DVD's rely on massive amounts of data trtansfer for smooth playback. Here's my suggestions: (1) either replace your CDROM with the DVD drive; or (2) if you're really pressed for space and neeed CDRW as well as DVD, get one of those Ricoh DVD/CDRW all-in-one units. Either way you would save some slots and you would get better performance from the DVD.
