DVD Profiler + CueCat

EvilYoda

Lifer
So I'm contemplating selling off my entire collection of DVDs (or at least most of them) to make way for future formats, however long those'll take to get established. In the meantime, it'll free up some cash to get a matching center, a new amp, whatever.

I need the easiest way to catalog my collection, which is probably 300+ now...doing everything manually would take forever. I saw online that DVD Profiler is supposed to have built-in capabilities of using a CueCat...has anybody done this before?

Thanks 🙂

Latest edition of DVD Profiler doesn't need anything beyond an established net connection.

I just tried it with my latest DVD, The Complete Denis Leary. Threw it in the drive with Profiler open, program picked it up right off the bat.

Edit: PM me when you get it put up. You might have something I'd be interested in.

Using a cuecat or barcode scanner would make it easier since you don't have to put in each DVD into the computer. Can just scan the barcodes.

Yeah, I realize that now after looking up what it was 😛

Oh well. Just from what's required to fully add a DVD to DVD Profiler, I can't image it being much faster. 300 DVDs would probably take a few hours no matter which method you used.

My collection's 300+ and I did it manually. If you can touch-type on the numpad you should be fine. Mine only took me about an hour (plus maybe 45 minutes to get them on/off the shelves the way I like it).

but...but...this is less work! 😛

An hour with no replies and bam, 8 of em...anyway, I just ended an eBay auction for a CueCat so I shall soon find out. (he's shipping from in state too, hopefully it doesn't take too long)

I'll post here and let you all know how it goes

Link to auction?

I heard they're selling hacked CueCat's now which don't need software to read barcodes.

Typing may actually be faster. I tried the cuecat thing and it was a painful and slow process. I just type in the upc. For all 1100+ of my dvdvs 🙂

I also propose manually typing, should be faster since you don't have to release the discs from their clamps, slapping them in, waiting for it to spin up, spin down, etc...

Actually did this once for my collection of ~100, then I lost the db. :/

The cuecat is used to read the barcode, so no removal necessary...which wouldn't work since many are still in the wrapper.

Hey, if you're sincere about buying part or all of my collection, you're more than welcome to PM me and discuss titles and pricing 🙂
