My DVD freezes up during a scene in a movie...any kindof scene. Its a creative DVD 8X drive. I have played another movie on it and still did the same thing. What should i do any upgrades? Or should i throw this dvd drive out i mean it was expensive and now its giving me these problems. It is maybe 4 months old...hmmm thanks

Are you using a hardware decoder?

Have you updated the drivers for it?

What video card do you have?

Have you updated the drivers for it?

Are you using DirectX 7.0a?

Do you have DMA enabled for your DVDrom in the device manager?

Have you tried killing TSR's running in the background (ctrl+alt+delete) and then watching a movie?

Have you tried a software DVDplayer such as WinDVD, PowerDVD, Cinemaster? http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/wdvd_down.html

Goodluck,
John

Another question is what causes a DVD to freeze. I am using a DX3 board and running on a celeron 500 with 96M of RAM so my system is plenty to run DVD's. Thanks.

NOTE: there is problems with the matrix dvd, I had a hell of a time with Xing, getting past the problem points, then I tried Powerdvd, it mamaged it, but the quality of powerdvd is atrocious

then I tried windvd, and it passes it ok, but the quality of windvd is spectacular

Try different software decoders, and I don't recommend using software that uses an external decoder, like Win98 or Me or 2K decoders,,since they just decode using your default decoder, like windvd or xing or power.

I love windvd !!

cheers
