DVD Players not reading DVD-Rs

My parents bought a Panasonic DMR-E55 DVD Video Recorder and I have been in the process of putting a few things from my PVR to DVD. For example, my mother and sister wanted to put the Gold Medal Softball game on DVD. I have done that but only the Panasonic DVD Recorder will play them. My PCs will not (I do have DVD drives) and my DVD players will not play them. Is there a reason for this? Are the disks bound to the recorder once used on it? If you know of the answer and/or any possible solutions please let me know. Thank you in advance.

The media is DVD-R

Hello New guy!
No, the discs are not bound to the recorder. However, many older DVD computer drives and home players will not read DVD-R's. They were designed when only the big movie companies put out DVD's and they just used one format.

You might have to upgrade you computer drive to a newer model and buy a newer home DVD player that supports burned media. If you buy a burner that writes -R's it will definately read.
Just dont buy a burner that only writes +R's. It probably wont read -R's.

I wish I had thought to put that info in but I was in a hurry, my DVD drives for my computers are quite new, My first drive is the AOPEN COM5232 and my second is a BENQ 16X DW-1620. They both get stuck trying to read the DVDs eventually getting to the point were my desktop crashes.

LOL, I figure it out. This is my first DVD burner of this type and it seems that they don't finalize the DVD until I tell them. LOL I feel like such an idiot.
