DVD player with DVI worth it?

Just bought a 65" Mitsu widescreen and it has DVI... Should I spring for a dvd player with dvi? Will picture quality be that much better. I'm looking at spending another $300 for dvd player and dvi cable... Thanks!

Not much better than Component.
EDIT: Unless you're completely anal and HAVE to have the absolutely best of the best, no matter the costs.

DVI input would be great if you were working on an HTPC. Otherwise, stick with the component input on the Mits.

BTW, nice purchase! (Owner of a Mits 55857 🙂 )

Oh, and like M4H asked, do they have DVD players with DVI out? I don't see the need. DVI would be best for HD-quality output.

DVI players do give you better quality, though the difference is smaller on an analog display (ie. A CRT based RPTV, like yours) than a digital. I have a Bravo D1, and definitely noticed the quality difference on my digital display.

If you don't have an HDTV receiver box yet, you might want to consider the LG LST-3510A. That box includes a built in DVD player (that scales to 1080i and 720p through the DVI w/hdcp plug) for $499.

beat me to it. and that LG box sounds sweet. too bad I have too many HDTV boxes right now.

I can't believe noone mentioned games yet. Hook-up your PC with DVI out to your TV and you'll have 65" of pure gaming goodnes. Nice....

The thing is a component cable costs $400. DVI cables are cheap

DVI cables are only cheap for shorter distances. Go over 5m and they start getting expensive very quickly if you want to use high bandwidth. Mine costed me about $500. 🙁
