DVD Player - Which Format Reader ?

Considering a second DVD drive to use as a reader for my DVD Writer (Sony DRU500AX), but am unsure about which DVD Reader to get.

The choice is between a DVD Reader which reads: DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW OR DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM

Is the ability to read DVD-RAM important ?

Planning on cutting my own DVDs for MPEGs, AVI, Digital Videos, data storage and backups of my DVD movies.

My thinking is to get the DVD Reader which can handle the DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW formats. Appreciate any thoughts or experiences in utilizing a DVD Reader with a DVD Writer in a system.
